Improvisation - Connecting Chord Tones with Scales
Step 1: Practice using mixolydian scales adding a passing tone between b7 and #7 (1,2,3,4,5,6,b7,#7), also known as “dominant bebop scale.”
Step 2: Play dominant bebop scale around the circle of 4ths
– (q = 120-160) eighth notes
– descending 2 octaves
– descending + ascending
– ascending 2 octaves
Step 3: Improvise using the chord changes to “Sweet Georgia Brown” in the key of (F) using dominant bebop scale.
– (q = 120-160)
– LH shell voicings
* Optional use major bebop scale for F maj7, d harmonic minor for Dm7
