Lesson Plan:

TOPIC #1 - Slow Swing Ballads

Step #1 – Do Nothing
A. Octave Harmonizations
B. Improv Lines
C. Short Pops without pedal texture.
D. Blues here and there, if you want.

TOPIC #2 - Straight 8th Ballad

Step #2 – Try melody by itself and see if you can make it spiced up. Play with ireal pro like a trio gig.
A. Slides, rolls, octaves, different registers. Get creative as possible.
B. Also play around more rhythmically with melody as well.
Step #3 – Try to transfer from straight 8th ballad style to slow swing style but with the same tempo. Use just metronome for this.

TOPIC #3 - Ballad Improvisation

Step #4 – Set ireal pro to straight 8th feel set at about 50bpm. Try again with this and try over Everything Happens To You.
Step #5 – With the swing time, I try to utilize the swing feel, with double time, accents and space, and textures. Try utilizing the pocket and space of this slow tempo then mix it with everything you submitted.
