This hit tune from the album “Takin’ Off” (1962) speaks for itself. After a series of funky solos by heavyweights Freddie Hubbard on trumpet and Dexter Gordon on tenor sax, Herbie responds with a blues-drenched piano solo which sends this track into the classic status for which we know it today!

With Elvin Jones on drums and Ron Carter on bass, they showed that avante-garde post-bop music could still swing hard.
