Lesson Plan:

TOPIC #1 – Improv Refinement: Left Hand, Shape, and Tone

Goal: Ground RH melodies with LH support and craft solos with intentional shape
Step #1 – Left Hand Pulse: Simple
A. Add simple 2-note LH shells (root + 7) every 2 bars
B. OR: pulse root only lightly on beats 1 or 1 & 3
C. Think: “Ground the solo gently without distracting from RH”
Step #2 – RH Melodic Storytelling:
A. Choose a 2-bar melodic motif and repeat/develop it over 8 bars
B. Try building a solo with low-to-high contour—don’t play high notes too early
