TOPIC #1 - Transcription Deep Dive (Bud Powell)
Goal: Internalize Bud Powell’s phrasing and bebop language more deeply.
Step #1 – Choose 4 bars from the Bud Powell solo
– Listen, sing, and play with original to match articulation and feel (Video)
– Write one variation per bar using enclosures or rhythmic displacement. Record a video of the new adapatation. (Video)
TOPIC #2 - Solo Piano Texture Study (Nobody Else But Me)
Goal: Add richness and motion to you left-hand voicings and arrangement.
Step #2 – Add bigger voicings spreads with melody where possible.
– Try to voiceleading as best as possible.
– Add a simple intro and outro (e.g., vamp or rubato intro using the last A section)
– Play full chorus with dynamics and phrasing like a vocalist

Step #3 – Take a solo over Nobody Else But Me.
