TOPIC #1 - That's All
Step #1 – Play through with melody and split shells alone.
Step #2 – Fill with 5th or more chord tones from step above.
Step #3 – Continue to try comping with those altered chords where there is no melody. (Which isn’t much in this tune.)
TOPIC #2 - Improv
Step #4 – Swing your scales up and down at 76bpm over a 2-5-1 in the key of C and F.
Step #5 – Improvise over 2-5-1 in C and F using more scalar motion now with the skips you were playing. and try to forget about using bebop approaches. Just make sure you land on chord tones when the chord changes.
