TOPIC #1 - Nearness Melody

Step #1 – Add little fills to up with looseness and character. Octaves, passing movements, reharms, thin vs thick voicings.
Step #2 – Practice alternating 2 bars melody only, 2 bars voicing fill only to highlight phrasing contrast

TOPIC #2 - Comping and Feel

Step #3 – Try a double time feel for one chorus.
A. Continue to work on your comping and large spread made up voicings with holds and textures and fills.
Step #4 – Voice-Matched Comping: Ballad Swing Style.
A. Try separating melody & comp rhythms:
B. One pass: Melody = legato / Comp = short
C. One pass: Melody = rhythmic / Comp = long tones
