Lesson Plan:
Topic #1: Improv
We have worked on 8th note flows based on scalar material and also playing more concise phrases based on what we hear, now it is time to get some input from outside sources.
Step #1: Transcribe a line note for note from recording
Step #2: Extract small section, give it a new context, improvise using the material.
Step #3: Extract the overall concept and use it as a framework to improvise over the changes.
– Note*** you do not have to use the same tune the line is from for steps 2 and 3. Feel free to learn line from any source and apply it to any tune.
