TOPIC #1 - Solo Piano (Ghost of a Chance)
Step #1 – Play again with these notes integrated.
A. Harmonize every melody note below a chord change.(The higher the melody the bigger the spread in your hands). At least 4 note harmonies in your RH if not 5.
B. Play at 50bpm. Try to sing the melody as much as possible and enjoy the space. Feel the time go by in the space as part of the arrangement.
TOPIC #2 - Comping
Step #2 – Comp through ghost of a chance using zone #1. RH voicings and LH bass notes.
TOPIC #3 - Improv Exercises (Triplet Skips)
Step #3 – Half step below into triplet skip up 3579
Step #4 – Just do 3579 triplet for white notes leading into black notes
Step #5 – Swing 2-5-1 chord scales up and down with metronome on triplets.
TOPIC #4 - Improv Integration - All The Things
Step #6 – Practicing improvising through all the things with the triplet skips integrated into your lines.
Step #7 – Try to integrate all the tools you’ve been working on below into a more spontaneous solo.
A. Bebop approaches, half step below to chord scale above and vice versa,
B. Skips with 8th notes, skips with triplets
C. Musicality, space, be lyrical
D. Good swing feel – Feel the triplet subdivision.
