  Ear training

  1. I assume most of you know about the wonderful site Tonedear. I have been using it daily for years. It stops somewhat short of Brenden’s playbook course on ear training but is more basic. I recommend it highly.

  2. In a recent podcast David Reed of Improvisation for Real claimed that there are impressive jazz players who cannot sit down at a party and play Happy Birthday by ear. True of or not? And if so is it to be deplored or corrected or just lived with? Reed claims to have some of sort of secret about ear training, but I’ve never been able to completely understand his ideas despite reading his book on the subject. I’d be very interested in any thoughts about this.
